DJ Shufflemore
Music for Balboa dancers.
Email me at [email protected] if you’d like me to DJ at your event. If your venue doesn’t have a sound system I can bring one: speakers, mixer, and a screen showing current track info (title, album, BPM).
I started my Balboa journey in Seattle, where I began dancing in 2003. A few years in I began running Balboa Happy Hour, a Sunday afternoon social, and that’s where I first started DJing. Since moving back to the UK I’ve been a regular DJ at Oxford’s Balboa Beckons, The Retreat, Bal Break and other events around the country.
Big band or small combo, old or new, what I’m really doing during a set is reading the floor: figuring out what’s working, keeping the room’s energy up, and maybe slipping in a few slow bal tunes when the moment’s right. I love the dance and I love the music, and when I’m not dancing there’s nowhere I’d rather be than behind the virtual decks, sharing in the energy of the room and watching people light up on the floor.
